Vincent Van Gogh Daubigny's Garden
Auvers was a real artist's village where painters such as Armand Guillaumin, Camille Pissarro and Paul Cezanne had worked. Charles-Francois Daubigny, an artist whose work Van Gogh much admired, had also lived there. Daubigny belonged to an earlier generation than Van Gogh. A popular landscape painter of the Barbizon School, he had produced many of his paintings in situ, in the open air. When Van Gogh moved to Auvers, Daubigny's widow was still living in the village. There was a large garden attached to Daubigny's house which Van Gogh painted several times. This impressionist-style work depicts part of the garden, and is probably a study for two larger paintings that show the entire plot.
