Paul Gauguin Landscape
Gauguin begins painting during the summer of 1873, influenced by Emile Schuffenecker, a colleague of his in the Bertin exchange office. In November of that same year he marries the Danish Mette Gad and, thanks to stock-market earnings, begins buying works of modern art. His first models are the painters of the Barbizon school, whose works he is able to study in the collection of his tutor, Gustave Arosa. Arosa introduces him to Pissarro, who teaches him to use paints in the Impressionist style, with separate brushstrokes and pale, luminous colors.
