Alfred Sisley Village on the Banks of the Seine
To cope with the economic difficulties, Sisley intensifies his activity as a painter, helped by Monet and Renoir, whom he met during their days in Gleyre's studio and who, like him, frequent the Cafe Guerbois. Between 1871 and 1884 Sisley makes regular visits to the towns of Voisins and Louveciennes and also to spots on the outskirts of Paris, among them Villeneuve-la-Garenne, near Saint-Denis, popular with Parisians for Sunday outings. As can be seen in this painting, Sisley uses pale, luminous colors with short, regular brushstrokes.
