Alfred Sisley The Bark During the Flood, Port Marly
In the mid-1870s, Sisley lived at Marly-le-Roi, near Versailles. In a group of six pictures, he recorded the aftermath of the great flood of 1876, which inundated Port Marly, a village on the Seine. The soft palette and generally low-keyed treatment are typical of Sisley's take on Impressionist sincerity.
