Diego Rivera Paintings

If you are new to Diego Rivera paintings, you might wonder which is the Diego Rivera most famous painting. The truth is that some Rivera paintings are famous while others are quite simply infamous. This has as much to do with the character of Diego Rivera's artworks as it does the character of the artist himself. Diego Rivera paintings are sometimes overshadowed by Rivera's biography and his tumultuous relationship with Frida Kahlo. Like Kahlo, Rivera has a central place in the Mexican artistic movements that emerged in the early and mid-20th century. Rivera paintings express the artist's identity and strongly embody principles of the Mexican Revolution.

When the artist was young, he experimented with many artistic mediums to find one that expressed his vision. As the only surviving son of a wealthy Mexican family -- he was descended from Spanish nobility -- Rivera was able to pursue a sterling education. He held his first artistic exhibition as a student and met with high praise and a government scholarship to continue his work. Before settling in Mexico to join the state-sponsored mural program where he would produce some of Diego Rivera most famous paintings, he lived in France, Italy, and elsewhere, learning about great masters of the past.

An avowed communist and proponent of continuing revolution, Diego Rivera was active both politically and artistically. Many of Diego Rivera most famous oil paintings are unapologetic in romanticizing the spirit of struggle that pervaded Mexican cultural identity in the post-colonial period. Rivera was also a staunch humanist, demonstrated by what is arguably Diego Rivera most famous painting, Man, Controller of the Universe. This mural demonstrates Rivera's strong feelings about human potential, which he felt was expressed in the Mexican revolutionary struggle.

Now located in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Diego Rivera famous painting depicts a factory worker standing at the crossroads of vast social and scientific forces. The original -- also recognized as one of Diego Rivera most famous -- was found on the ground floor of Rockefeller Center, but it was removed after Rivera's refusal to eliminate an image of Russian revolutionary Lenin from the composition. Rivera's assistant, the Swiss-born Lucienne Bloch, photographed the mural extensively before its destruction so Rivera could recreate it in Mexico City, the capital of his beloved homeland.

Diego Rivera famous artworks came in the form of murals. The magnificent sweep and color of these multi-layered works is understandably challenging to reproduce. Luckily, ArtsHeaven.com provides the expertise that allows art lovers to enjoy the full Diego Rivera mural experience at a fraction of the size. These mural reproductions and painting reproductions provide outstanding conversation pieces for gathering places such as dining rooms or add interest to hallways and sitting areas.
